In the presence of Francois Bayrou, President of the Communauté d'Agglomération Pau Béarn Pyrénées and Mayor of Pau, Monique Sémavoine, President of the Syndicat Mixte Valor Béarn, Valérie Revel, Mayor of Lescar, Albert Perez, Director of Engie Solutions, and Claude Saint-Joly, Chairman and CEO of Urbaser Environnement, the connection of the Urban Heat Network of the Agglomeration Community to the Waste to Energy plant of Lescar was officially inaugurated this Monday, 2021, November 15th in Lescar.

This connection represents a major technical step in the modernization of this facility, which was entrusted by Valor Béarn in 2020 to the Urbaser Group, as part of a Public Service Delegation contract, including the operation of the facility for a period of 20 years to the company Béarn Urbaser Energie, a subsidiary of Urbaser Environnement.

Thanks to the renovation of the Waste to Energy plant, which will be completed in 2023, the installation will allow the production of 40,000 MWh of electricity per year, i.e. the supply of electricity to nearly 7,000 housing equivalents, and the production of 62,000 MWh of heat per year, i.e. the supply of heating and hot water to approximately 9,000 housing equivalents, as well as the supply of heat to the new wastewater treatment plant of the Pau Bearn Pyrenees Agglomeration.

A new generation installation

François Bayrou expressed his deep satisfaction with the mobilization and involvement of both the “Communauté d'Agglomération” Pau Béarn Pyrénées and the Syndicat Valor Béarn around this project, which contributes concretely to the reduction of CO2 emissions, and provides an alternative energy supply to fossil fuels for heating and production of domestic hot water.

Monique Semavoine recalled that this project of modernization of the Waste to Energy plant of Lescar made it possible to transform this industrial tool into a new generation installation with very high energy performance, and congratulated the companies involved, in particular the company Béarn Urbaser Energie and the company Engie Solutions, operator of the Urban Heating Network, for their professionalism in the implementation of this connection.

Claude Saint-Joly insisted on the fact that at the end of the modernization works, the Waste to Energy plant, while meeting the strictest environmental requirements, will become a pillar of the transition towards a more efficient use of resources, and warmly thanked the President of Valor Béarn as well as all the elected officials for their confidence in the Urbaser group in the realization of this exemplary project.
